Here is my first blog in english, I was thinking it was time to write here not just in my ” first official language portuguese” but in my “second official language” as well, so here we go…
Many people make confuse about the difference of coaching, therapy, consulting and mentoring. So I decided to help in clarify this in a very simple way ( watch the video is a very cool one, and read this article) :
Coaching is not any of those services mentioned above!
Coaching is a new methodology, process or a personal advice that helps you achieve personal or professional goals, using techniques and scientifically proven tools that allow you to have more self-knowledge, clarity of who you are , helping you to have ideas, focus, command of your life and motivation to put you into action to your ideal future and to follow your plan its deadlines, Through a friendly and confidential dialogue the coach will ask powerful and right questions to help the coachee ( client) to find inside themselves the right answers, solutions or a way to perform better in life – its about a real transformation from the inside out. Exploring your natural talents, developing skills, overcoming limiting beliefs and perfecting points of improvement, a coaching session will open a new vision for you, a new way to live your life and conquer your goals easily in a fast, effective and measurable way!
Therapy, its something different: Its when a Doctor, a psychiatrist, psychologist or perhaps a counsellor helps an individual which might have symptoms of a mental illness, its more clinical issues, they are able to prescribe medicines and they analyse the past of the person as well. Its worth to mention that many psychologists use coaching techniques as well to help them in their services. The client needs to know the kind of assistance they need.
Counsulting: Its when a professional consultant who have experience in a specific field help a business in creating new strategies to operate more efficiently, so its like the consultant give clear instructions and ideas to you in order of what need to be done in the company, its doesnt come from you the solution, its someone else giving their expertise to you.
Mentoring: its when a person have been very successful in a business or area of work who are an example for you to follow, or to talk as a mentor for your business, its a ongoing relationship that can last for a long period of time, as well can be more informal and meetings can take place as and when you need some advice, guidance or support, when in coaching we set days and a period of time to reach your goals. What is very common as well is the Coach be a mentor, and mix both expertise in your coaching process.
So interesting isn’t ? Even for me, been writing this blog make me think and analyse the differences of which one, and to be honest I believe all of those services are really efficient, but, it depends which one is right for you now! or maybe a mix of few of them? like coaching and mentoring!
